BRITNEY SPEARS: 'I'VE ONLY SLEPT WITH JUSTIN' [11 Jul 2003|02:46pm]
Pop superstar Britney Spears acknowledges she's had sex with Justin Timberlake -- but only him.
The singer -- once the world's most famous virgin - claims she waited two years before sleeping with the 'N Sync star.

But Britney admits she's furious with her former long-term boyfriend for revealing details of their relationship on a TV show.

The 21-year-old singer says, "I've only slept with one person in my whole life. It was two years into my relationship with Justin and I thought he was the one. But I was wrong.

"I didn't think he was going to go on Barbara Walters and sell me out."

Britney -- speaking to W magazine -- did admit to a brief encounter with womanizing badboy Colin Farrell, although she refused to discuss her relationship with Limp Bizket rocker Fred Durst, who claims he slept with her.

She says, "Yes, I kissed Colin. He's the cutest, hottest thing in the world. But it was nothing serious."

Sizzling Photo-Shoot Heralds Britney's Raunchy New Image [11 Jul 2003|02:28pm]
11 JULY 2003
Britney Spears has decided upon a radical change of image, if her latest photo-shoot is anything to go by. The 21-year-old, who is best known for her squeaky-clean persona, has appeared in a series of raunchy photographs for W magazine.

The pop princess, who enjoyed phenomenal success with her first two albums, built her reputation on an image of pigtailed innocence. But her record sales have been flagging of late, and the singer recently promised to take her career in a radical new direction.

And it would seem Britney is keeping her word, as she gave a candid interview to go with the sizzling pics. Asked about her romance with N'Sync star Justin Timberlake, she says "the most painful thing I have ever experienced was that break-up".

"We were together so long and I had this vision. You think you're going to spend the rest of your life together. Where I come from, the woman is the homemaker, and that's how I was brought up - you cook for your kids."

The experience has helped her mature, however, and nowadays she is concentrating on her emotional independence. "I need my single time," she says, "to learn to be self-loving."

Britney also admits she shared a kiss with Irish hunk Colin Farrell, though she says it was nothing serious: "Yes I kissed him. Of course I did! He's the cutest, hottest thing in the world."

There is also a new album in the pipeline, which promises to be quite unlike anything we have heard from her before.

Britney laid bare (Star Interview) [11 Jul 2003|02:03pm]
BRITNEY SPEARS has bared her soul in her most revealing interview yet, talking for the first time about taking drugs, her split with Justin Timberlake, rumours that she is a lesbian and her relationship with pop rival Christina Aguilera.

Yet not so long ago the 21-year-old singer was proclaiming her virginity, making her a role model to conservative Middle America.

Now her frank admissions will kill off her squeaky-clean image for good. Here Britney sets the record straight.

THE BIG BREAK-UP

BRITNEY says her four-year relationship with pin-up Justin ended because of their pressurised careers, despite rumours he dumped her because she cheated on him.

She says: “I was completely heartbroken. It was like, ‘What do I do now?’ It was the hardest thing I’ve had to deal with.

“It took me months to get over it. I finally realised it was over when I’d hear him sing on the radio or hear people say his name and my heart wouldn’t start fluttering.

“I’ll always love him, he’s my first love.

“And there are certain things I still miss about him. He totally made me laugh.”

But Britney says she will not get back with Justin, because their relationship could never be the same again.

She also reveals she never speaks to him these days, despite constant rumours they are secretly seeing each other.

Britney says she is happier now without him than she would be if they were still together.

And she says none of the songs on her new album are about him, even though her former lover has admitted writing tracks about their break-up.

His video for the song Cry Me A River shows him splitting up with a Britney lookalike and the lyrics are about her cheating on him.

Britney says: “I was shocked to s***. First time I saw it I thought, ‘Oh my God, it’s me.’ It was a little weird but if that’s the way he has to deal with things, that’s fine. And he got a No1 video.”

And dismissing other rumours, Britney says: “Justin never proposed to me and I didn’t cheat on him.”

PARTYING

BRITNEY says she gets drunk after just two drinks and her favourites are pineapple flavour Malibu and Amaretto sours.

But she downs shots on special nights out, including her birthday.

She says: “Yes, I’ll go out and have a good time — why shouldn’t I? And just like anybody else my age I have woken up the next morning and said, ‘Whoo, that was a crazy night.’”

But she denies a recent story that she danced on a New York nightclub table.

HER BOYS

THE sex kitten admits to seeing Irish actor Colin Farrell but insists they never had sex. Britney reveals she finds him adorable and adds that she has even met his mum and sister.

She says: “Me and Colin had fun but I’m not the kind of person to date. I know if I like you or if I don’t. It’s either there or not. I don’t want a boyfriend right now. I’m just having fun and work is my hobby.”

But Britney admits: “Colin’s absolutely insanely gorgeous. We talked on the phone two weeks ago but we were just friends, nothing serious. Did we hook up? We had a peck. Make out? I wish!”

She says her relationships have only ever been long-term — her old boyfriend back home for five years and Justin for four.

DRUGS

BRITNEY says she would not be around to tell the tale if half the rumours about her were true. But she drops a clear hint that she has dabbled in drugs and admits it was a huge mistake.

She says: “Let’s just say you reach a stage in your life where you are curious.

“And I was curious at one point. But I’m way too focused to let anything stop me.

“Was it a mistake? Yes.”

Nowadays she perks herself up with energy drink Red Bull.

FRED DURST

BRITNEY was stunned when the Limp Bizkit frontman did a kiss-and-tell on her — because she says there was nothing to tell.

The singer told a radio interviewer he had slept with her and even described her boobs.

She says: “Fred and I worked together for a couple of days. Justin and I had broken up and we’d go out at night and we’d see each other.

“He started sending me letters and stuff, which is very sweet. I thought he was a cool guy but that’s as far as it went.

“Then I went on a show and said we hadn’t been together like that. Fred started saying, ‘Oh, she’s lying.’ It was very weird.

“Then he went on Howard Stern’s show and my mum had to listen to this stuff.

“I left a message telling him, ‘We have to talk. I wish you’d stop saying things about me that aren’t true.’ He never called me back, of course. But it’s made me such a strong girl. You can’t let it bother you.”

THE MAN SHE WILL WED

SHE says: “I can see myself marrying someone like Tom Hanks. He’s so nice, he’s the best father, a lovely family man.

“Someone like him, or Brad Pitt. Brad probably more. Yeah.”

CHRISTINA AGUILERA AND JUSTIN

BRITNEY says she was not jealous when she spotted her ex and Christina posing in a sexy shoot for Rolling Stone magazine.

She says: “They looked hot and have great chemistry together.”

And she insists she is pals with Christina, though they are not as close as they were as youngsters performing on Disney TV show The Mickey Mouse Club.

“When we were in The Mickey Mouse Club we were best friends, inseparable. One night we’d sleep over at my house, the next at hers.

“I’d love to be able to sit down and talk to her now but we’re both so busy we don’t have the time.”

THE LESBIAN RUMOUR

STORIES circulated that Britney had had a lesbian fling but she says they were ridiculous.

Her mum Lynne called her after reading a story headlined: “Britney’s Girl”.

Britney recalls: “She was very concerned and said, ‘Did you read this, baby?’ I said, ‘Like, mum, I’m not a lesbian.’”

WORST BODY PART

BRITNEY admits: “I hate my nose. I’d love it to be a little bit smaller.”

HER PARENTS’ DIVORCE

BRITNEY found out about the split in May 2002 when her mum called and broke the news.

She says: “It’s sad but you can fall out of love. Trust me, I know, I’ve been there. It’s really weird how one minute you can be so in love with someone and then it’s gone, just like that.”

Britney quashed rumours that her dad Jamie had an affair with a beauty who was spotted snorting cocaine.

DEMI MOORE DATING A TOYBOY

BRITNEY says she could not date someone 15 years her junior, though she recently met 40-year-old Demi — who is going out with actor Ashton Kutcher, 25 — and thinks she looks like a 20-year-old.

And Britney reckons Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas’s relationship works despite their 25-year age gap.

GUNS AND KIDNAPPING

IN Mexico earlier this year Britney was being driven in a van when it stopped suddenly and she was surrounded by men with guns.

She later found out they were part of a security crew which she had not hired and there had been a fall-out.

TATTOOS

BRITNEY reveals she has four designs on her body — but she won’t get any more.

Britney And Bodyguard Split [11 Jul 2003|01:52pm]
June 19, 2003
Pop beauty Britney Spears is recovering from yet another major split in her life - this time from her longtime bodyguard.

The 21-year-old BOYS singer, ex-girlfriend of pop hunk Justin Timberlake, has been pictured with her giant-sized minder and constant companion Robert 'Big Rob' Feggans countless times over the years - but they've now reluctantly parted company.

A source says, "It was very hard for Britney because she loves him."

But their close relationship has been cited as a major problem by the source, who explains that during one of her nights out in New York City, Feggans was very lenient with her.

The source tells American magazine US Weekly, "He treated her like a sister and not a star who needed watching over. He turned a blind eye like a family member would, and he didn't see things objectively or look out for her best interests."

But another source close to the Spears family says the reason for their parting is far more simple, explaining, "Britney went with a new company, and she wished Rob would switch to her new company, but he felt his benefits were better for him at the old company.

"Everyone is sad about it. He's part of the family."

Britney awarded star on Walk of Fame [11 Jul 2003|01:50pm]
23/06/2003 - 09:13

Sir Anthony Hopkins, Halle Berry and Britney Spears will all be honoured with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame next year.

The 2004 showbiz honours list also includes Glenn Close, Kevin Costner and movie director John Singleton.

Also featured are teen stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who have built up an empire worth more than $1 billion on the strength of their merchandise, TV shows and films.

However, there are voices of dissent at the inclusion of pop princess Britney in the list.

The 22-year-old's four big screen offerings have not been well received by critics and many have questioned whether she has the requisite 'legendary' status to be awarded a star alongside Hollywood's finest.

She will be one of the youngest stars ever to get her name on the Walk of Fame.

Halle Berry and Sir Anthony, in contrast, are both Oscar winners. Berry received her best actress gong in 2002 for gritty drama Monster's Ball.

The list, announced by the chairman of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Johnny Grant is drawn up from hundreds of nominations from the worlds of film, television, radio, theatre and music.

He said: 'There is a favourite on this list for everybody. We have both young and veteran performers and local, national and international stars.'

This year, actress Nicole Kidman, Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford and veteran director Steven Spielberg all received their stars on the boulevard.

Charlotte Church Slams Britney & Christina... [02 Jun 2003|07:59pm]
2 JUNE 2003
Welsh singer Charlotte Church has stunned the music world by launching a broadside on her fellow pop starlets. The 17-year-old, who rose to fame as a child opera star, said that Britney Spears wore too much make-up and labelled Christina Aguilera a "slag".

"Christina has an amazing voice, brilliant talent, and what does she do?" asked Charlotte in an interview. "She cheapens herself to make everybody look at her and the first things that comes to mind is 'slag', which is awful. And Britney, she's gorgeous - but she wears far too much make-up."

Bronx-born beauty Jennifer Lopez also became a target for the teenager's criticism: "Although she's amazing and gorgeous, she works out three hours a day, doesn't smoke, doesn't drink and doesn't eat certain things. That sounds really boring to me – I want to live."

Charlotte, who lives with her DJ boyfriend Steven Johnson in Cardiff, said she has also made a few mistakes of her own, however, and regrets accepting the title "Rear Of The Year" in 2002. "It was a bit cheap," she admitted. "I thought it would be OK because I was 16, but it could still be disgusting, with lots of 50-year-old men looking at me."

BRITNEY ON 'SPECIAL' LP [02 Jun 2003|07:57pm]
Mon 2 Jun 2003 12:45

Britney Spears has previewed a number of tracks from her upcoming fourth album and says her new material is "special, special, special".

The as-yet-untitled LP - which features production work from Rodney Jerkins, The Neptunes, Matrix, 7 Aurelius and Fred Durst - is said to incorporate a trip-hop vibe, reminiscent of Madonna's 'Ray Of Light'.

Speaking to MTV recently, Spears explained: "I've really been able to take my time and have creative control and make [the album] special, special, special."

Three tracks entitled 'Touch Of My Hand', 'Brave Girl' and 'Every Time' were played for the US music network at New York's Battery Studios recently.

'Touch Of My Hand' is described as having Middle Eastern influences and sees the pop diva singing in a lower register, speaking of her desire to be "out of control".

"It's one of my favourite tracks on the album," Spears said. "I like to compare it to 'That's the Way Love Goes', kind of a Janet Jackson thing."

Dance number 'Brave Girl' is backed by electro-funk beats, features Britney singing in near-rap style and, according to the star is "basically about going out and having a good time".

'Every Time' - described as a traditional pop ballad - features a simple piano intro with Britney's soft vocals asking, "Why carry on without me?/Every time I try to fly/Without my wings/I feel so small."

Elsewhere, despite rumours to the contrary, Spears' finished album will not feature a track addressing the singer's former boyfriend Justin Timberlake.

It had been reported that Spears had written a musical response to Timberlake's hit single 'Cry Me A River', but apparently, the rumours were false.

"You know, it's funny," said Britney. "I read that I wrote this song and I wrote these lyrics, and that's not my style. I would never do that."

Britney's new album is expected to be released towards the end of 2003.

Britney Previews LP, Denies Rumors Of 'Cry Me A River' Response [31 May 2003|09:54pm]
05.30.2003 4:21 PM EDT

NEW YORK — From the sound of things, Britney Spears appears to be channeling Madonna on her fourth album.

The pop singer, who took a step toward womanhood on Britney, has taken the Material Girl's cue, seeming to address more adult themes and styles while retaining a sense of girlish fun on her upcoming disc, which she previewed for MTV recently at Battery Studios.

"I've really been able to take my time and have creative control and make [the new album] special, special, special," she said.

Producers who have worked with the singer — including Rodney Jerkins, the Neptunes, 7 Aurelius, the Matrix and Fred Durst — have described the new material as having a trip-hop vibe, reminiscent of Madonna's "Ray of Light".

Parts of Spears' suggestive "Touch of My Hand," one of three songs the singer played for MTV, merit that comparison. With a Middle Eastern influence, the song is sleek and fluid, with Spears singing in a slightly lower register of her desire to be "out of control": "I will be bold/ Going to the places where I can be out of control/ Don't want to explain tonight/ All the things I try to hide."

"It's one of my favorite tracks on the album," Spears said. "I like to compare it to 'That's the Way Love Goes,' kind of a Janet Jackson thing."

While "Touch of My Hand" makes it clear what Spears wants, the dance song "Brave Girl" is about finding out what you want in the first place. Backed by choppy, electro-funk beats, she sings in a bouncy near-rap, "She's going to find her passion, she's going to find her way, she's going to get right out of this/ She don't want New York, she don't want L.A., she's going to find that special kiss."

"It's basically about going out and having a good time," Spears said.

The bubbly nature of "Brave Girl" also seems to be more indicative of what the rest of the album might sound like, according to sources close to Spears who've heard more tracks and describe them as upbeat.

Of the songs previewed, "Every Time" is Spears' most adult and her closest attempt at a traditional pop ballad. "Every Time" has a lilting piano intro accompanying the singer's breathy vocals, which build from soft to strong, despite lyrics that suggest she feels otherwise. "Go to sleep ... why carry on without me?/ Every time I try to fly/ Without my wings/ I feel so small."

"Sometimes when I get kind of bored, I come behind here and play the piano," Spears said while giving a tour of her studio space. "There's a piano in the hotel room, so I was really excited. I don't know what 'C' is or, like, all that, but I do my own thing."

One thing you won't find on the album is a response track to ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me a River," despite rumors to the contrary. "You know, it's funny," she said. "I read that I wrote this song and I wrote these lyrics, and that's not my style. I would never do that."

Spears is the guest host of several radio concert festivals this weekend, including Q102's Q Concert 14 on Friday (May 30) at Philadelphia's Tweeter Center, KISS 108's Kiss Concert 2003 on Saturday at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, and New York station Z100's Zootopia 2003 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Fame Lives Forever! [Britney to judge on Fame!] [28 May 2003|09:11pm]
by Mandi Bierly

Fame costs. The contestant application for Fame — NBC's newest reality show — even warns against possible exposure to "injury and death." So we're guessing a few aspiring singer/dancers are about to start paying!

"Well, you know, I might maim them a little bit in rehearsal. I'm known to be tough," jokes Debbie Allen, who auditioned hundreds of performers for the 10-week series (debuting tonight at 8 pm/ET.) She'll now coach her 24 hand-picked semi-finalists as they face viewers and celebrity judges — including Britney Spears and 'N Sync manager Johnny Wright, who'll usher the winner into a recording studio after the talent search is over.

Just what should the next J.Lo or Justin Timberlake do to woo their critics? Here, Allen mentally choreographs her idea of a knockout number: "I might [perform] Madonna's 'Die Another Day,' 'cause I could dance and sing the hell out of it. 'I'm gonna die...' Just imagine the leg going up. '...another day.' Drop to the floor. 'I'm gonna die...' Split! Look at the judges. '...another day.' Get up, then pulse. Honey, they'll be dead! I'll be in Hollywood! I will have shown technique, my ability to sing and that I have a personality you might want to watch."

Wow! If it sounds like Allen's expectations for her hopefuls are high, just listen to what she has in mind for Fame itself. "[The original '80s drama] created a stir and a phenomenon around the world," she says. "I mean, in warring countries — Egypt and Israel, and England and Ireland — people were laying down their battle weapons to sing and dance. That's the power of what we did with the TV series, the records, the tour. I think this [Fame] is gonna put the arts back on the front burner, where they need to be."

And if anything says High Art, Ms. Allen, it's tapping 'N Sync's Joey Fatone as host. Somewhere, Ryan Seacrest is quaking in his Prada boots.

Judge dismisses copyright infringement suit against Britney Spears [27 May 2003|09:42pm]
The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA - A federal judge dismissed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Britney Spears, saying two Philadelphia songwriters failed to prove that the pop singer copied the melody of one of their songs.

U.S. District Judge Berle M. Schiller ruled last week that Michael Cottrill and Lawrence Wnukowski could not provide enough evidence to prove Spears had access to their song titled, "What You See Is What You Get," when she recorded, "What U See (Is What U Get)."

Cottrill and Wnukowski said they gave one of Spears' representatives a copyrighted version of their tune in late 1999 after being asked to submit songs for consideration for the singer's upcoming album.

But Schiller, citing defense testimony, said the melody of Spears' song was completed by the beginning of November 1999, before Spears and her representatives "would have had access to a copyrighted version of plaintiffs' song." He also said that there were not enough similarities between the two songs to prove copyright infringement.

The four men credited with writing Spears' song, released on her best-selling second album, "Oops! ... I Did it Again," testified that they had not heard Cottrill and Wnukowski's tune until two months ago.

"As plaintiffs have not come forward with any affirmative evidence showing access, there is no reasonable possibility that the creators copied plaintiffs' song before November 1999 when the melody of defendants' song was completed," Schiller wrote in his decision.

The suit, filed last June, also named Zomba Recording Corp., Jive Records, Wright Entertainment Group and BMG Music Publishing Inc.

But I don't see them gettin' back together anytime soon." However, Bass denies reports that the exes are feuding. "They're still friends," he says. "They talk all the time. Britney Spears to drop 'stalking' case against man [17 Apr 2003|07:04am]
Thursday April 17, 11:03 AM

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop star Britney Spears will drop her bid for a restraining order against the Japanese man she claimed had stalked her after lawyers for the two sides reached an agreement, a court spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

Attorneys for the 21-year-old singer were expected to file court papers on Friday asking that the case be dismissed, the spokeswoman said, but were not expected to release details of the out-of-court agreement.

Spears went to court last December to request that 41-year-old Masahiko Shizawa of Yokohama, Japan, be ordered to stay at least 1,000 yards (915 metres) away and claiming that he had been "stalking" her for months.

A spokesman for Spears could not be reached for comment. Lawyers for Spears and Shizawa also could not be reached.

Spears asserted in court papers that Shizawa had sent her hundreds of love notes, many with photographs of himself and one that said: "I'm chasing you." The Louisiana-born superstar also alleged that Shizawa had tracked her to the homes of her divorced parents, her Hollywood home and a third residence.

But during a brief January court hearing, Shizawa's lawyer called the stalking allegations a "cultural misunderstanding" and insisted that his client -- reportedly a computer programmer -- had no intent to bother Spears.

Spears, who as a child starred on The New Mickey Mouse Club, exploded onto the pop charts in the late 1990s with her debut album "...Baby One More Time" and followed it with two more hit albums.
